Many people yearn to sing but think they can’t. They hear songs on the radio, listen to albums or go to live events, and wish they too could give voice to that beautiful sound. What most of those people don’t know is that everyone can sing.
Everyone has a beautiful sound.
Amusia is genetically-based…
less than five per cent of the world population carries the gene

I have wanted to write this book for a long time now. There is a parallel of sorts between the people who say they would like to
sing, but think they can’t, and my experience of writing. This is my first book. At first, I felt that I would have to back up almost every
sentence with scientific evidence. Slowly, as I worked on the book, I realised that I was so stuck on the science, I wasn’t including
myself, my spirit and love of singing, and my desire to share this, in the writing. I needed to bring my whole self to writing, rather
than just the academic part of my brain, just as singing is about expressing your whole self through the uniquely beautiful sound
that only you can make.
Where is Your Voice?
Have you ever described yourself as tone-deaf? The scientific term for tone-deafness is ‘amusia’. Amusia happens when a sound goes into the brain and is expressed in a different way. Tonedeafness comes in many forms. Some people who have amusia can play an instrument.

BRIAN FINNEGAN, EDITOR OF EVERYONE CAN SING
“Everyone Can Sing by Anne Colgan is not just about singing. It’s also about gaining confidence in your own ‘authentic’ voice and the ‘beautiful sound’ that your unique voice makes.
Underpinned by research and case studies, Anne’s book also highlights the healing power of music in her life story. If you are interested in singing, this is a wonderful book; if you are interested in how and why people do – and do not – communicate, it’s a must read. “
